I had issue mounting one of Linux system, lost root Password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which SET Grub setting as 0, which not give you to enter in to single user mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

here is the steps for recovering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Download KNOPPIX_V7.2.0CD-2013-06-16-EN.iso<\/a><\/li>
  2. Upload to Esxi one of the Folder where you have access for this ISO to Boot.<\/li>
  3. Stop the VM<\/li>
  4. Add ISO Image as CD in to the VM as Show as below. ( Connect and Power on, Select the ISO Image which was uploaded your folder\/<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    5. Select Boot Option.<\/p>\n\n\n

    6. Select Boot Option CD ROM, how you setup in BIOS<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    7. Boot with Live CD and Mount the VM Drive<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    8. Login and try below command to scan LVM<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    lvmdiskscan<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

    \/dev\/ram0 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/eve-ng-vg\/root [ 71.52 GiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram1 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/sda1 [ 487.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/eve-ng-vg\/swap_1 [ 8.00 GiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram2 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram3 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram4 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram5 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/sda5 [ 39.52 GiB] LVM physical volume
    \n \/dev\/ram6 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram7 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram8 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram9 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram10 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram11 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram12 [ 64.00 MiB]
    \n \/dev\/ram13 [ 64.00 MiB]

    9. vgchange -ay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    10. lvscan<\/strong>
    #mount \/dev\/eve-ng-vg\/root \/mnt\/<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    11. cd \/mnt <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    12. cd etc<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    13 edit the shadow and replace root with below line <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now the root password is master<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    save the file shadown and reboot, make sure you remove the CD from connect on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
