Password Recovery Cisco Catalyst 3850 \u2013<\/h2>\n

Step 1<\/h3>\n

Connect your console cable to the 3850 and ensure you can get a command prompt.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The first step is to power your switch off, if you are running a 3850 stack ensure to remove all power cables and if using stack power disconnect the stack power so you can isolate the top switch of the stack.<\/p>\n

You need to be able to power on one switch and hold down the mode button at the same time, if the switch is in a rack you might need someone to help you with this bit!<\/p>\n

The mode button is shown below<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/h3>\n

Now you have powered off your switch \/ switches and located the Mode Button and got a helper (if needed) to assist with the power you are set.<\/p>\n

Hold the Mode Button down and connect the power \u2013 after about 12 seconds the SYST LED will flash Amber along with all the other four LEDS<\/p>\n

If this step has gone well, you should be looking at the following on your laptop<\/p>\n

The following commands will initialize the flash file system proceed to the below steps<\/strong><\/p>\n

Step1<\/strong>\u00a0Initialize the flash file system.<\/p>\n

Switch: <\/em><\/p>\n

Step2<\/strong>\u00a0Ignore the startup configuration with the following command:<\/p>\n

Switch: SWITCH_IGNORE_STARTUP_CFG=1<\/em><\/p>\n

Switch: SWITCH_DISABLE_PASSWORD_RECOVERY=0<\/em><\/p>\n

Step3<\/strong>\u00a0Boot the switch.<\/p>\n

Switch: boot <\/em><\/p>\n

Step4<\/strong>\u00a0Terminate the initial configuration dialog by answering No.<\/p>\n

Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog? [yes\/no]: No<\/em><\/p>\n

Step5<\/strong>\u00a0At the switch prompt, enter privileged EXEC mode.<\/p>\n

Switch> enable\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Switch#\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Step 6<\/strong>\u00a0Copy the startup configuration to running configuration.<\/p>\n

Switch# copy startup-config running-config <\/em><\/p>\n

Destination filename [running-config]?<\/em><\/p>\n

Press Return in response to the confirmation prompts. The configuration file is now reloaded, and you can change the password.<\/em><\/p>\n

Step7<\/strong>\u00a0Enter global configuration mode and change the enable password.<\/p>\n

Switch# configure terminal<\/em><\/p>\n

Switch(config)#\u00a0username bbandi privilige 15 password\u00a0<your password here><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Switch(config)#\u00a0enable secret <new enable secret password><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>Step8<\/strong>\u00a0Write the running configuration to the startup configuration file.<\/p>\n

Switch# copy running-config startup-config\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Step9<\/strong>\u00a0Finally we want to remove the variables we set while in Boot Loader..<\/p>\n

Switch(config)#\u00a0no system ignore startupconfig switch all<\/em><\/p>\n

Switch(config)#\u00a0system disable password recovery switch all<\/em><\/p>\n

Step10<\/strong>\u00a0Save your new config.<\/p>\n

Switch# copy running-config startup-config\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
